A New York based family with two children requires one or two tutors for a period in June. This could be extended to the whole of the summer, with a further possibility of the whole of the 2024-25 school year depending upon the outcomes over the summer.
In the event that we want to extend this into a full year contract from September then the terms will be discussed and agreed at that point. Currently the available position is for the June period, and possibly July/August.
There are two children; an 8 year old, second grade boy and a 5 year old girl in kindergarten. The boy’s school offers an option to follow a defined program away from the school in June. The family intend to either stay in New York city, go to their home in The Hamptons, or travel to Europe. Whichever they opt for, the tutor will deliver and support the defined project work, as well as providing other educational enrichment activities for both children.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The initial period runs from June 5th to 21st, or possibly the end of the month. The school will provide a loose curriculum of projects and tasks to accomplish during this time based around an as yet undefined theme. The job is wider than that though – we are looking for someone who can go beyond the defined program to help to address some of the shortfalls in the school’s teaching so far this year.
We are looking for teachers who are qualified and experienced teaching children of these ages, with the ability to help students with ADHD. In this case this is principally manifesting as difficulty in retaining focus. They must enjoy curriculum planning, incorporating engaging and inspirational trips, hands-on activities, utilisation of appropriate third-party resources etc.
Successful applicants will be fluent in English and Spanish. If we opt for two teachers, the Spanish speaker would be expected to teach entirely in Spanish across all subjects. They must be willing and able to travel with the family, either in the USA or internationally.
The teachers will be required to design and deliver an appropriate broad spectrum curriculum that engages both students and allows them to satisfy their intellectual curiosity. The intention is that the students are provided with a supportive, encouraging learning experience as well as an effective one. The teachers should design assessment and feedback mechanisms that encourage learning and develop lifelong learning skills. The successful candidates will be inspirational in their delivery and act as role models in their conduct.
All educational and regulatory requirements should be fully understood and complied with. Liaison with the school as required is expected.
Full records of all teaching and learning activities and progress must be kept up to date.
The teachers must not smoke or vape, should be apolitical, tolerant and respectful towards others.
HOURS AND HOLIDAYS
This is a full-time position. The expectation is that the teachers will follow a full-time schedule; 5 days per week, 9-5. Teaching time will not strictly defined as this and the teacher should expect to work around the family’s schedule.. Flexibility and a “can do” attitude are expected from the teacher in order to facilitate educational enrichment activities.
The teacher will not be entitled to any paid holidays in this short-term roles. There may be days when they are not needed by the family and these will be given as paid leave. Juneteenth will be given as a paid holiday.
ACCOMODATION, TRAVEL AND MISCELLANEOUS
Accommodation will be provided in all locations by the client.
