A highly skilled and adaptable tutor is sought to support a Dubai-based man who is planning to start a 28-month online MBA program through the University of Miami. The tutoring role will commence in early 2025, with an initial lead-in period for preparation and support before the MBA begins in May 2025. The position will require the tutor to relocate to Dubai and accompany the student on travels globally. The tutor will play a crucial role in organizing, motivating, and supporting the student throughout his studies, ensuring he fully understands and retains the course material.
THE STUDENT
The student, who is in his mid 30’s was raised in Saudi Arabia before moving to the United States for his high school and undergraduate education. He holds a degree in Business Administration and Hospitality from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. He is planning to undertake a 28-month online MBA program through the University of Miami, starting in May 2025. He intends to begin preparation with the Tutor several months prior to the start of the MBA program to ensure he is fully prepared. The student aims to complete one course per week during the program’s duration.
The students is a well-educated, motivated individual with a wide range of interests, including racing cars, travel, natural world expeditions, and marine environments. He has completed a yachting course and is passionate about marine science, with specific interest in diving, particularly in locations like the Galapagos Islands. He has a history of positive educational experiences with engaging and interactive teachers, such as his university teacher, who made challenging subjects like math and finance interesting and relatable. Conversely, he has had negative experiences with less engaging teachers, such as a French teacher who did not effectively convey the material, leading to a lasting disinterest in the subject.
ROLE OF THE TUTOR
The Tutor will be responsible for providing comprehensive academic support tailored to the student’s needs, focusing on MBA-level coursework. The Tutor must be able to break down complex assignments, ensure the student understands them, and help relate the material to his business interests and personal experiences. The student values practical, real-world applications of his studies, particularly in areas such as hospitality, property management, and marine science. The Tutor will ideally be a recent MBA graduate or similar, preferably from the University of Miami or a top-tier program such as INSEAD, Bocconi, Saïd Business School, MIT, Wharton, or Harvard. The Tutor will need to be highly flexible and able to adapt to various teaching environments, as the student frequently travels between Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, and other international destinations. The university lessons will occur once a week, very early in the morning Dubai time, to align with Miami’s time zone. The rest of the time, the Tutor will be on call to provide continuous academic support, structuring the student’s study schedule around his work and personal life.
The ideal candidate should share some of the student’s interests. While the Tutor is not expected to participate in these activities, having shared interests could enhance the tutoring relationship.
The Tutor must also be comfortable with the student’s socio-economic environment and always maintain professionalism, avoiding distractions common in Dubai’s glamorous setting. The student has type 1 diabetes, and the Tutor, along with all the other household staff, will receive training from the student’s doctor to recognize and respond to any medical issues.
HOURS AND HOLIDAYS
The Tutor will engage in a standard 40-hour workweek, though the exact distribution of these hours will need to accommodate the student’s travel and personal schedule. This may include providing support in a variety of settings and times, depending on travel schedules and the locations the student visits. The Tutor will be entitled to two consecutive days off per week, normally at the weekend, but it is essential that she or he understand the need to be flexible regarding the family’s travel plans and other commitments. The Tutor will have a minimum of 9 weeks off per annum, to be taken at times agreed upon with the student. The Tutor will be flexible with respect to any changes in schedule, be they travel-related or otherwise and will adapt accordingly. The Client will strive to give up to two weeks’ notice of any planned alterations.
ACCOMMODATION AND TRAVEL
The Client will provide accommodation in Dubai in the form of a private apartment or equivalent. In subsequent locations such as Saudi Arabia and Switzerland, suitable accommodations will be arranged by the Client. The Tutor will also have all travel expenses covered by the Client, ensuring ease of movement between different teaching environments.
MISCELLANEOUS
The successful candidate will be able to offer more than the minimum requirements of this position. She or he will not only be an excellent practitioner, but also a good role model, with excellent manners and personal values. The Tutor must be fit, healthy and a non-smoker – active and energetic with a love for the outdoors; the kind of person who always makes the most of their environment to enhance teaching and learning opportunities.
