This job has been filled.

A skilled, experienced school teacher is required to provide the clients’ 11 year old son with a broad curriculum home education for the remainder of the current school year. The tutor will be expected to deliver the full range of age appropriate subjects whilst developing and building on his interests to encourage him to become an engaged, independent learner.

STUDENT

The student is a very smart and good natured 11 year old boy.  Until recently he was at school in Ireland in 5th Class, where he was doing well.  The family have now moved to Belgium and he is not currently attending school or following any formally structured program.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The tutor will be responsible for designing and implementing a suitable curriculum and timetable for the boy’s continued learning and educational development.   This will be largely based on the standard Irish curriculum to allow for a straightforward transition back into schooling at the desired time, although there is the possibility that it will be decided to continue with home-schooling for some time to come..

The full range of subjects are to be taught and the tutor should have the experience and confidence across the curriculum.

The tutor is expected to adapt their teaching to build on the boy’s interests, and to introduce him to new concepts and ideas.  It is important that he is helped to develop into an independent, inquisitive and engaged learner.

Teaching will principally take place within the family home, with trips to other places as required and as agreed with the clients.  All resources will be provided by the clients, though the tutor will be expected to advise and assist with their procurement.

The tutor will maintain comprehensive records of progress and attainment to allow for a straightforward transition back into the school system when required.

There is also a 4 year old girl in the family.  The tutor will be expected to help with arranging some educational play activities for her, although this is a secondary responsibility to the boy’s education.

Some Russian language skills would be advantageous, but not required.

HOURS AND HOLIDAYS

This is a full-time position.  The tutor will work with the boy for an average of 40 hours per week, with planning and preparation to be carried out in addition, in a structure largely emulating standard school days.

The tutor will be entitled to 45 days holiday per year prorated, to be taken at times convenient to the client.   It is likely that the approximately 18 days holiday will be taken at Easter and in early July, but this is to be confirmed.

ACCOMODATION AND TRAVEL

A studio apartment is provided for the tutor with this role.

It is not anticipated that there will be significant travel involved with this role, but if the family do choose to travel then the tutor would be required to accompany them.  All costs associated with this will be covered by the client.
