An experienced early years teacher is required to develop and deliver a full curriculum education to a 5 year old boy (6 in November). The family are American, living most of the year in Ibiza, with several months in Miami, and some other travelling.

The teacher will have a strong personality, with the knowledge and experience allowing them to work with a range of emotional responses and to help to develop a secure foundation.

STUDENT

The student is a 5 year old boy.  He has been home schooled by several teachers this year.  His parents would like to introduce more continuity and stability via a long term teaching solution.

He loves to learn, both in the classroom and during extra-curricular activities.  He is an intelligent, strong willed boy who will respond well to a structured learning environment.

A program that combines the routine and consistency of foundational learning with the enjoyment and challenge of projects and activities will be greatly beneficial for him.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The tutor will be responsible for designing and implementing a suitable curriculum for the student. The educational plan should include, but not be limited to, the standard US Common Core grade level content.  Curriculum materials from external sources could be used – for example https://www.originscurriculum.com/.  External teachers will be used for music and PE.

There is a purpose built classroom at the property in Ibiza which will be used for the majority of the indoor teaching. The tutor will assist with planning any resources and equipment required, to be provided at the client’s expense.

The family are health conscious, and the tutor should be similarly physically fit and interested in a healthy lifestyle.  They are expected to be actively involved in outdoor activities with the student and the wider family.

The tutor should use their curiosity and their flexible and energetic personality to encourage similar traits.  They should have a well developed emotional intellect and have a solid understanding of how to work with a range of expressions and reactions, including anger, aggression, resistance in the student.

The teacher should have a broad range of capabilities and be able to provide an innovative and engaging program from math to the creative arts.  The development of an inquisitive mind with an appreciation for “how the world works”, both from a natural sciences and societal viewpoint, is greatly desired.

Teaching is to be delivered in English.  The tutor must be completely fluent.

The successful candidate will be forward thinking, apolitical, tolerant and respectful towards others, and a non-smoker. 

ACCOMMODATION AND TRAVEL

The year is likely to be split between Europe (mainly Ibiza) and Miami.

Suitable accommodation will be provided in all locations.

The tutor will be required to accompany the families on some trips. All accommodation and travel costs will be covered by the client. 

HOURS AND HOLIDAYS

This is a full-time position, with the teaching schedule to be confirmed but likely to be 9am – 5pm, 5 days per week.

The teacher will be entitled to 45 days holiday per year, to be taken at times convenient to the client. It is likely that the family will opt for the teacher to work with the student for 9-10 months per year with the remaining 2-3 months taken as time off, probably during the winter months.  It is therefore important that the teacher does not have commitments during the summer as they are likely to be required to work then.
