We are looking for two experienced, high quality teachers to work with a highly mobile family with two tween children. Each teacher will assume educational responsibility for one of the children.

They travel extensively around the world, typically staying in locations for several months at a time.

The roles are to start as soon as practically possible, ideally September 2026, and it is hoped that the successful candidates will continue in the roles for several years.

STUDENTS

The children are in grade school. They grew up in California, but in recent years have spent a lot of time travelling around the world with their family. The children are currently enrolled in school. However, the approach is changing to full-time home schooling as they travel. The children will be withdrawn from the school and two full-time teachers will be hired.

The girl excels at school, thriving in structured academic environments. She is highly capable and intellectually engaged. She is sometimes prone to being too methodical and would benefit from a teacher who can help her to learn to be less constrained by the task and perhaps to be less self-judgmental.

The boy is very creative. He is charming, intelligent and deeply insightful. He benefits from dynamic, hands-on, and creative instruction requiring adaptability and energy. The boy has been identified as having ADHD and would benefit from a teacher with experience supporting students with diverse learning styles.

They are both keen on outdoor activities and take part in some sports, although it has been difficult to regularise this due to the extensive travel schedule.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The teacher will have suitable experience and expertise teaching students of the appropriate age level and will be comfortable teaching according to the US curriculum. They will be capable of teaching across the full core curriculum (math, science, language arts, social studies).

They will be required to design and deliver an appropriate curriculum, taking into account the family’s travels and opportunities provided thereby. The intention is that the students are provided with an inspirational learning experience as well as an effective one. The teacher should take full advantage of the situation to add breadth and depth to the education provided. They should be able to adapt their teaching style as required to provide the maximum benefit for the students in each location they experience, covering both the traditional “bookwork” as well as enhancing the curriculum.

As well as the opportunities presented, the teachers will need to be mindful of the potential pitfalls of this mobile lifestyle. They will need to be able to maintain standards and consistency as the location changes, and to deal with any logistical issues arising.

The family travels with a team of people with varying responsibilities. The teachers must be able to integrate into this organisation so that everyone works together towards the common goals.

Each teacher will be primarily responsible for one of the children, with a focus on ensuring that they are making the required progress. They will be expected to adapt their teaching to suit the individual needs of the student.

They will work closely with the other teacher, sometimes switching to teach the other student and sometimes teaching as a team, depending on the strengths and weaknesses of each teacher, and enabling some variety of outlook for the students.

The teacher responsible for the boy should have expertise in supporting students with ADHD.

The role is much broader than just teaching – there is a mentoring and caring element to it as well. The teacher will be spending a large amount of time with the students and their family, so it is essential that they are fun to be around, easy going, communicative and adaptable. The successful applicant will appreciate the need for flexibility to make the experience as rewarding as possible for the students, whilst maintaining a good work/life balance for themselves.

The teacher should have other skills and interests to contribute beyond their mainstream teaching ability.

Comprehensive documentation of teaching, learning activities, and student progress should be maintained, including written records and supporting materials as appropriate.

The children are bilingual in English and French. Fluency in English is essential, with French being highly desirable.

The right to live and work in the USA is a requirement. Additionally a European passport would be a great advantage.

The teacher must not smoke or vape.

HOURS AND HOLIDAYS

This is a full-time position, with the teachers expected to do whatever is needed to get the job done without “clock watching”, but they should expect to spend around 40 hours with the children per week – any planning and preparation would be in addition to this.

The teachers will usually get weekends off, but flexibility is expected as the “weekend days” may need to be changed from time to time.

The teacher will be entitled to paid holiday of two weeks, to be taken at times convenient to the client.

ACCOMODATION AND TRAVEL

Travelling globally is a very significant aspect of the role. It is essential that the teacher is willing and able to travel with the family whenever and wherever they go. Applicants with travel restrictions will not be considered.

There is a travel schedule, but flexibility and adaptability from the teachers is expected as plans may change at short notice.

The teacher will be provided with accommodation in each location. This will typically be a hotel or rented property nearby, but could sometimes be a self contained residence within the family home.

All costs associated with travel will be covered by the client.
