We are looking for an experienced private tutor to provide after school support for a Finnish family as they relocate to London.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The family currently live in Finland, but are moving to North London in December.
There are four girls; aged 7, 5, 4 and 2. The older ones will be attending a good independent school in the area. The challenges in this move are that their first language is Swedish, and the school system in Finland is very different.
The school will be supportive, and there is no reason to think that there will be a fundamental problem with this move, but it is felt that they will benefit from some extra support to make the transition as smooth as possible.
The main focus will be on improving their confidence in English. The girls all have some English to varying degrees. Generally, their spoken English is better than their written.
The tutor will work with the girls probably 2-3 times per week after school, for around 1 hour each per session. The exact timings are to be agreed on a flexible basis.
The tutor will help them with anything that they have had difficulty with at school, carry out reinforcement exercises, help with preparation for upcoming topics etc. In addition to more traditional academic work, activities outside the home are to be included to encourage familiarity and confidence with the English language and the UK environment.
Swedish language skills would be beneficial, but not essential.
The tutor will encourage a fun, joyful learning outlook for the girls. They will be inspirational in their delivery and act as a role model in their conduct.
The teachers must not smoke or vape, should be apolitical, tolerant and respectful towards others.
HOURS AND HOLIDAYS
This is a by-the-hour position. The exact schedule is to be agreed with the family and is expected to vary from week to week, within the after school timescale. It is likely to be in the region of 8 hours per week initially.
There is no paid holiday entitlement.
ACCOMMODATION, TRAVEL AND MISCELLANEOUS
There is no accommodation provided with this role. The tutor is expected to live within reasonable travelling distance of the family home (to be determined, but likely to be in the vicinity of Hampstead/Highgate).
Travel costs will not be covered.
The client will be responsible for any expenses incurred relating to education materials, external costs etc. The tutor is expected to gain approval from the client before incurring expenses.
