A skilled, experienced teacher is required to provide after-school in person tutoring and possible weekend support for a grade 10 boy. The family lives in North York, Toronto, and the tutor will be expected to live near-by. We are not looking for an online teacher.
STUDENT
The student is a grade 10 boy who is very sports focussed at school. He can learn well in the right environment, but his ADHD makes focusing on his work and organising his time a challenge. He can achieve well when motivated.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The tutor will be an outstanding educator with suitable experience and expertise teaching students of the appropriate age. They should be very comfortable delivering the necessary wide range of subjects, specifically Math, English and Science.
The tutor will be required to support the student’s learning 5 days per week after school for 1 to 2 hours per day and possibly at weekends. They will assist with ensuring a full grasp of current syllabus materials. The tutor will also need to ensure that homework and longer term assignments are completed.
The tutor will further plan to assist the student in developing his learning skills and examination technique.
The successful candidate will be well organised, bringing structure and clarity to the student’s learning. They will have a good sense of humour and be able to make learning enjoyable as well as effective. The tutor will be able to adapt their teaching to accommodate the student’s ADHD in order to maximise engagement and academic progress.
HOURS AND HOLIDAYS
This is a part-time position. The tutor will work with the student for 1 to 2 hours each weekend day after school. There is a possibility of some weekend work occasionally if desired.
ACCOMMODATION AND TRAVEL
There is no accommodation available with this contract. Travel expenses are not included.
TERM AND FEES
The placement will ideally start as soon as possible. The client envisages this being a long term placement for the right tutor.
Beacon will pay the tutor CAD 150 per hour, payable in arrears.
