This position is ideal for an educator who believes that the best education is highly individualized, intellectually rigorous, and centered on developing both character and curiosity.
STUDENTS
The student is a 9 year old boy, who has successfully completed 3rd grade. He is bright, intellectually curious, and highly motivated.
The educational objective is to deliver a mastery-based curriculum designed to complete approximately two years of elementary coursework (4th and 5th grade) during one academic year, while ensuring genuine understanding rather than simply moving quickly.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The educator will lead every aspect of the student’s academic program, including Mathematics, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, History, Jewish Studies, Hebrew language (appropriate to the student’s level).
They will be responsible for designing and implementing a customized academic program and continuously assessing mastery and adjusting instruction accordingly.
In addition to academic progress, the educator will be expected to encourage intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, executive-function skills, and independent learning. They should serve as a trusted mentor and positive role model.
Teaching will take place in a dedicated, fully appointed private classroom located separately from the family’s residence.
There will be regular meetings with the parents to discuss academic progress and long-term educational goals.
Comprehensive documentation of teaching, learning activities, and student progress should be maintained, including written records and supporting materials as appropriate.
It should be noted that this is a professional educational position. It is not a childcare, nanny, or household role.
HOURS AND HOLIDAYS
This is a full-time position encompassing approximately 30 hours per week of direct instruction, which will generally take place from 9am – 3pm, Monday to Friday.
In addition, reasonable lesson preparation, curriculum planning, and periodic parent meetings are expected.
The school year will broadly follow the US system, starting mid-August and finishing in late May.
ACCOMMODATION AND TRAVEL
The successful candidate will be expected to rent somewhere nearby to live. Assistance can be provided with identifying a suitable property.
Help with relocation costs may be available.
A US citizen would be ideal, but it may be possible to provide a J1 visa for the right candidate.
