HOURS: 40 flexible hours per week
START: Mid January 2026

A skilled, experienced teacher is required to provide a full-time education for a 6th grade boy and a 4th grade girl following an enhanced California state curriculum. The family plan to spend mid-January 2026 to June 2026 travelling globally to various locations including Europe, North Africa and Asia. The tutor will be expected to travel with the family and design and deliver an appropriate program of study to take advantage of the changing location and opportunities, whilst maintaining academic standards to allow for a straightforward transition back to school the following year. The tutor will also be required to act as a mentor and to encourage and facilitate opportunities for personal as well as academic development.

STUDENTS

Both of the students enjoy learning and are responsive to academic opportunities. They both also enjoy sports and being outdoors, including skiing with their family.

The older student is in 6th grade. He has been educated at school in California so far, and he will be returning to his school for 7th grade. He is regarded as a good student and enjoys learning. His strengths are in Maths and Science.

The younger student is in 4th grade and similarly has attended school in California so far. She enjoys Maths and Social/Emotional Learning, being a student that thrives in a pupil centered learning environment with opportunities for real world learning.

Both students will thrive in a supportive, compassionate learning environment, studying with a teacher who is patient, happy to coach them to solutions and makes learning fun.

Both students come from a very supportive and engaged family, with parents who are actively involved in their development and who want to give their children a meaningful ‘whole child’ learning experience during their travels.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The teacher will have suitable experience and expertise teaching students of Grades 4 to 6 and will be comfortable teaching according to the California curriculum.

They will be required to design and deliver an appropriate curriculum, taking into account the family’s travels and opportunities provided thereby. The intention is that the students are provided with an inspirational learning experience as well as an effective one. The teacher should take full advantage of the situation to add breadth and depth to the education provided. They should be able to adapt their teaching style as required to provide the maximum benefit for the students in each location they experience, covering both the traditional “bookwork” as well as enhancing the curriculum.

The role is much broader than just teaching – there is a mentoring and caring element to it as well.  The tutor is expected to engage with the students during adventure and sightseeing activities, as well as in more formal lessons to encourage their academic and personal development.

The tutor will be spending a large amount of time with the students and their family, so it is essential that they are fun to be around, easy going, communicative and adaptable to make this as straightforward as possible. The successful applicant will need to be comfortable travelling and staying in a variety of accommodation styles from tent to hotel via ski-lodge. The tutor should also be comfortable in their own space when required.

The tutor should have other skills and interests to contribute beyond their mainstream teaching ability. Being comfortable with creative/expressive arts is important, being a skilled pianist would be desirable, an interest in ecology and the natural world would be advantageous. The successful candidate would ideally speak Spanish in addition to English.

The teacher will liaise with the children’s school, frequently monitoring educational targets and assess progress in discussion with the parents and the teachers.

Any educational and regulatory requirements should be fully understood and complied with.

Full records of all teaching, learning activities and progress must be kept up to date.

The tutor must not smoke or vape.

HOURS AND HOLIDAYS

This is a full-time position. The tutor will work with the students throughout the week, with a varying timetable to fit in with the family’s plans and activities. Flexibility is required as one of the advantages of this approach is that the family are not constrained by school timetables etc. The tutor must be able to respond to changes of plan as they arise.

The tutor will be entitled to 15 days holiday in this fixed term contract, to be taken at times convenient to the client.

ACCOMMODATION AND TRAVEL

The tutor will be provided with accommodation in all locations.

All costs associated with travel will be covered by the client.

TERM AND SALARY

The placement is to start in mid-January 2026 and will run until late June 2026.

Beacon will pay the tutor $12,000 – $15,000 per month payable in arrears.
