A skilled, experienced teacher is required to provide after-school tutoring and weekend support for three bright, motivated children. The family lives in Salt Lake City, Utah and the tutor will be expected to live near-by. The children, aged 16, 14 and 13, currently attend private schools locally.
STUDENTS
The eldest student is a bright 16 year old boy with aspirations to attend Stanford, USC or equivalent. He is a “straight A” student who is considering business or film as a future career. He has recently collaborated with a Harvard medical researcher to create a short film about potential solutions to peanut allergies and applies similar dedication to his academic studies. The tutor will be required to support him in English, History, Science, Pre-calculus, Computer Science and, ideally, Mandarin Chinese. He plays for a club soccer team and enjoys learning.
The middle child is a 14 year-old girl who enjoys competitive dance at a high level. She has strong organisational skills but occasionally needs help staying focused. She can achieve consistent A’s provided she stays on track. As well as the core subjects, she also enjoys craft activities particularly ceramics. She can be shy at first and will appreciate an understanding, compassionate tutor. In the right learning environment she achieves well and enjoys her studies.
The youngest is a 13 year-old boy. He is doing very well in seventh grade. Like his siblings. he is intelligent and creative. He is also very sociable, plays the cello and enjoys volleyball. Like his sister, he enjoys art and crafts and responds well to a kinesthetic learning environment.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The tutor will be an outstanding educator with suitable experience and expertise teaching students of the appropriate age range. They should be very comfortable delivering the necessary wide range of subjects as well as preparing students for college entry and SAT examinations.
The tutor will be required to support the students’ learning 3 days per week after school and at weekends. They will assist with ensuring a full grasp of current syllabus materials as well as adding breadth and depth to the school curriculum. The tutor should be completely comfortable supporting all of the core subjects. The tutor will ideally also be able to teach Mandarin Chinese.
The tutor will further plan to assist the students in developing their learning skills and examination technique.
The successful candidate will be well organised, bringing structure and clarity to the students’ learning. They will have a good sense of humour and be able to make learning enjoyable as well as effective and child centred. The tutor will be able to adapt their teaching to each child’s specific learning style in order to maximise engagement and academic progress.
The tutor will, ideally, possess a clean driving licence and be happy to transport the children from after-school activities when needed.
The tutor will be expected to work on the weekends and receive two days off in the week.
As mentioned, the ability to teach Mandarin Chinese would be advantageous.
HOURS AND HOLIDAYS
This is a full-time position. The tutor will work with the students from 4:30 to 9:30 pm three days a week after school as needed and for two hours with each student each day on the weekend. The tutor will be entitled to 90 days of paid holiday per year.
ACCOMMODATION AND TRAVEL
There is no accommodation available with this contract.
A car will be made available for the tutor’s use when travelling with the children.
TERM AND SALARY
The placement will ideally start at the beginning of July 2026 and will be a renewable, annual contract The client envisages this being a long term placement for the right tutor. Beacon will pay the tutor US$9,375 per month, payable monthly in arrears.
